Frequently Asked Questions
My leachbed doesn’t seem to be working. There is a lot of standing water. What should I do?
Use less water than normal and wait until it dries. After a large rainfall, the ground will become too saturated and will not accept any more water. If the problem continues, you may want your septic professional to come diagnose the situation.
What is a sump pump?
A sump pump is a small pump installed in the lowest part of a basement or crawlspace. Its job is to help keep the area under the building dry and to prevent it from flooding. Usually, sump pumps are installed in specially constructed sump pits.
My sump pump is constantly running. Why is this happening?
It may run continuously due to a system malfunction, a plumbing issue or a high water table. A sump pump continuously running can overheat and break down.
What is the difference between cabling and jetting?
A traditional cable is great to cut up roots or retrieve objects. It uses a cutter at the end of the cable line, usually the size of your pipe, that cuts around the pipe’s diameter. However, cables aren’t ideal when you have grease clogs. Jets use a stream of high-pressure water that cuts the grease off the walls of the pipe and flushes it away. The thrust of the nozzle drives the hose down the line for wall-to-wall pipe cleaning action.
What is a cleanout and why would it be beneficial to me?
a. This provides outside access to your drainage system. You can locate them by noticing a plastic cap sticking out above the ground.
b. When you have a long run to the main sewer line, it's harder to reach the stoppage in the pipe. Installing a cleanout in the middle of a long line will give the technician access to clean toward the house and away from the house, reaching any plug.
c. Lastly, the size of piping within the house is usually smaller than the main drainage pipe outside your house. Therefore, if we only have access to your drains from inside, we are only able to use a smaller cutter size to fit that pipe. Your pipe could go from a 4" to 6" main pipe outside the house, yet the cutter doesn’t cut the 6" diameter and you will be left with the same issue again, as the equipment wasn't big enough for the 6" diameter. Installing a cleanout will provide you 6" access right away and therefore can clean the 6" pipe diameter thoroughly.
My aeration motor doesn’t seem to be working. Why is that?
The bearings might be out, the breaker is flipped, the motor is burned up or something was caught by the motor and would burn up the motor.
Why does my aeration system smell?
The shaft on the aeration motor is plugged and you will start to get an odor. Unscrew the shaft tip (has four-prongs) and clean this out to get the motor to start working again.
